Posting this again cause it is coming up this Friday.

The reason why this show is important for our little local scene is because the Honolulu Academy of Art is taking note of what we have all been working so hard on for the past couple of years and is making a very strong attempt at highlighting this in their Doris Duke Theater. Without the support of everyone involved in our scene, events like this will just come and go. I for one love our chinatown venues and appreciate the hard work the musicians and promoters put in week after week, every show that is thrown is down purely out of passion. Personally, I appreciate the chance to play in different venues, for different crowds. It is a challenge because it puts us out of our comfort zone and it gives people an opportunity to actually hear our songs instead of attempting to decipher what we work so hard on over the background sounds of a bar.

To the credit of the Doris Duke management, they are working extremely hard to expose the bands involved to their members along with the public, not to mention they are treating us amazing, along with setting us up interviews with the local papers who haven’t really taken notice of our passion filled music scene.

I guess my point is, I hope people who are involved in the local music scene support these events, because friday’s event is just the first of hopefully many more to come. I know the $10 ticket price is more expensive than what we are used to, but it’s because the theater is an expensive baby to feed. Even if you don’t come, if you can just take a moment to help get the word out, it will be very appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time on reading….I just wanted to share my thoughts on why this event is important and a bit different than the usual show.

We were very excited to play this show and are disappointed that it has been canceled, but excited that we were afforded the opportunity and look forward to similar shows in the future. We are delighted to be playing the first installment of the Secret Sound Showcase on Friday, January 25 at the Doris Duke Theatre along with our friends Pink Mist and ukulele virtuoso Taimane Gardner. This is going to be a great-sounding event in a beautiful venue, and the first of many. As Mike from Pink Mist said, “the bigger the crowd the more shows like this they will throw, so please come out and support.”

This month at Art & Flea we are proud to showcase three of Honolulu’s top indie rock bands: Boy and Sea, Clones of the Queen, and Pink Mist! To honor the occasion we asked the bands some questions and got a wide array of answers regarding their views on what it’s like to be an indie band in Hawaii, trying to make a living as a musician, playing shows, and how the scene here has changed over the years.

How would you describe your sound?

Matt (Clones of the Queen): Layered, atmospheric electronic pop music with a strong and emotional delivery.

Mike Pooley (Pink Mist): Guitar based alternative pop… Or like two happy kids hugging, while wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket.

Jeff (Boy and Sea): Starting off with the hardest question… hmm, not sure. Indie pop (more indie less pop) sorta sums it up, I think. I have been writing songs and playing music for over a decade so our sound is loosely based on that—If you have heard my other bands (Ekto Gamut, Space Catalog, Algebra, Teradactyl and some others) you kinda know what we sorta sound like. We occasionally cover a song from one of my old bands. But lately the way the band writes music has less me and more of everyone else. I think you will get a feel for what we sound like while reading the answers to the other questions.
